October's withdrawal pace has outrun every other month of 2026 combined.

US spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs shed $549 million last week, with Ether funds alone posting $320 million of that total. October has become the worst month on record for spot Ether ETF flows, with net withdrawals near $955 million before the month is even over.

The flow numbers

Three straight weeks of Ether ETF outflows and two straight weeks of Bitcoin ETF outflows have erased most of the momentum both products built earlier in the year.

  • Spot Ether ETFs lost $320 million last week, per SoSoValue data cited by Cointelegraph.
  • Spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $229 million in the same week, a second consecutive weekly decline.
  • October Ether ETF outflows total roughly $955 million, the heaviest monthly figure of 2026.
  • Ether ETFs still hold about $610 million in net inflows year-to-date; Bitcoin ETFs hold about $259 million.
  • ETH fell 5% over the week to around $2,433 while BTC slipped 1.3% to about $82,783, per CoinGecko.

Reading the retreat

The obvious read is a risk-off rotation out of crypto ETFs as prices soften. The flow math says the damage is concentrated and the exits are fast enough to flip a positive year into a flat one.

Ether ETFs pulled in $610 million across nine months, then gave back $955 million in one. That single month erased the entire year's gain and then some, pushing full-year Ether ETF flows into the red even as the product stays nominally positive on paper for now.

Bitcoin ETFs show the same shape at smaller scale. A $259 million year-to-date cushion is getting eaten by $229 million weekly withdrawals, meaning two more weeks like the last one wipes out 2026 entirely.

The prior week's outflows hit $1.22 billion combined, meaning last week's $549 million is actually a slowdown. That's the detail the headline obscures: the bleed is decelerating even as the cumulative hole keeps getting dug deeper.

Smaller funds tell a parallel story. Solana ETFs lost $26 million, Zcash $19 million, Hyperliquid $18 million, all in the same week Bitcoin and Ether bled. This isn't one asset losing favor. It's ETF-wrapped crypto broadly losing bid depth going into year-end.

What to watch

  • Whether Ether ETF year-to-date flows turn negative, which happens with roughly $610 million more in net outflows.
  • Whether the weekly outflow pace keeps decelerating from $1.22 billion toward the $549 million level or reverses higher.
  • Whether Bitcoin ETFs post a third consecutive outflow week, which would match Ether's current streak.
