Bitcoin ETFs snap back but stay underwater
Spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $1.92B last week, the strongest since October 2025, yet 2026 flows remain net negative at $2.91B.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $1.92 billion last week, their strongest haul since October 2025. Bitcoin rode the demand from near $63,000 to briefly above $79,000 on Friday, a move of more than 20% in five trading days.
The flow numbers behind the headline
The size of the swing matters as much as the destination. SoSoValue and Farside data give the shape of who bought and how fast.
- Bitcoin ETFs took in $1.92 billion for the week, per Cointelegraph's report on SoSoValue data.
- BlackRock's IBIT alone drew about $1.33 billion across five straight days, Farside Investors data shows.
- IBIT's daily pace climbed from $160.2 million Monday to $503 million Thursday before easing to $239.3 million Friday.
- Spot Ether ETFs added roughly $700 million the same week, per analyst Nate Geraci.
- 2026 net flows for Bitcoin ETFs still sit at negative $2.91 billion, even after this week's surge.
What the rebound actually tells you
The obvious read is that ETF buyers are back and conviction has returned. The full-year math says something more specific: this week didn't close the gap, it just stopped the bleeding.
Bitcoin ETFs shed $4.51 billion in June and another $2.43 billion in May. August's $2.38 billion in inflows through Friday is the best month of 2026, and it still trails what October 2025 alone attracted in inflows before the crash that followed it.
That October comparison cuts both ways. The prior surge preceded a 24-hour liquidation event that wiped out roughly $19 billion in leveraged positions and dragged Bitcoin down 38% from its peak near $124,700. Big inflow weeks have not been reliable bottoms before; they've sometimes marked exhaustion points instead.
What's different this time is concentration. IBIT's daily pattern, what Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas called a "classic Flipping the Bird pattern," shows inflows accelerating into midweek strength and then tapering as price ran hot. That shape reads more like tactical allocators chasing a breakout than a durable re-entry.
Bitcoin still needs another roughly $3 billion just to erase 2026's net outflows. One good week resets sentiment. It doesn't rebuild the base that was withdrawn over May and June.
Where this goes next
The next two or three weeks of daily IBIT flows will say more than this single print. If inflows keep compounding into September at anything close to Thursday's $503 million pace, the "back to conviction" read holds. If they fade back toward zero once price stalls, this was a breakout chase, not a trend reversal.
- Whether IBIT's daily inflows stay above $200 million through the next two weeks or collapse toward the June run rate.
- Whether 2026 net flows turn positive, which requires roughly $3 billion more before year-end.
- Whether Bitcoin holds above $75,000 without a fresh liquidation cascade like October's $19 billion wipeout.
