Bitcoin ETFs cut 2026 losses in half
Bitcoin ETFs pulled $314M Tuesday, a 7th straight day, halving 2026's net outflow deficit to $2.26 billion.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $314.37 million on Tuesday, their seventh straight day of net inflows. That streak has pushed August's total to $3.03 billion, putting the month $390 million behind October 2025's record with four trading sessions left.
The flow numbers
The scale of the reversal shows up in the year-to-date math as much as in the daily print. Funds that spent much of 2026 bleeding are now closing that gap fast.
- Seven-day streak added $314.37 million on Tuesday alone, per SoSoValue data cited by Cointelegraph.
- August inflows hit $3.03 billion, trailing October 2025's total by just $390 million.
- Year-to-date net outflows cut by more than half, now sitting at $2.26 billion.
- Total net assets across the funds reached $99.05 billion.
- Cumulative net inflows since launch climbed to $54.36 billion.
Ether ETFs matched the pattern, adding $179.8 million Tuesday for a seventh straight inflow day and roughly $1 billion over the stretch.
What the rebound actually shows
The default read treats this as bitcoin's comeback story: price crossed $80,000 briefly, ETFs followed, sentiment turned. The numbers argue for something narrower.
August's $3.03 billion is real money, but it's arriving into a fund complex still $2.26 billion underwater for the year. Halving a deficit isn't erasing it.
Bitcoin itself traded at $78,880 at publishing time, down 2% on the day, after that brief pop above $80,000. The Fear & Greed Index slipped from 74 to 65 in 24 hours.
That's a market recovering flows faster than it's recovering conviction. Seven green days on a chart that spent most of the year red tells you capital is testing the water again, not that it has decided the water is warm.
The comparison to October 2025 matters more than the headline suggests. That was the ETF complex's best month ever, set during a period when bitcoin was pushing toward new highs with sustained momentum.
August 2026 is chasing that number from a much weaker starting position: a year-to-date deficit that was, weeks ago, twice its current size. Closing $390 million of ground in four sessions is a stretch target, not a formality.
What would confirm the turn
The next few weeks separate a genuine capital rotation back into bitcoin exposure from a short covering-driven bounce that fades once the streak breaks.
- Whether the inflow streak survives a full week below $80,000, since Tuesday's dip already shows price and flows diverging intraday.
- Whether August closes above or below October 2025's total, given the $390 million gap with four sessions remaining.
- Whether the Fear & Greed Index keeps sliding from Tuesday's 65, which would signal sentiment cooling faster than flows.
