Where crypto's value sits
Strip out the noise and crypto is a Bitcoin market with a stablecoin plumbing layer bolted on.
| Segment | Share of market |
|---|---|
| Bitcoin | 55.7% |
| Ethereum | 9.2% |
| Stablecoins | 13.7% |
| Everything else | 21.3% |
Bitcoin alone is 56% of the entire crypto market, a single asset that dwarfs everything built after it. Ethereum, the second-largest, is under 10%. The gap between first and second place is the widest in any major asset class.
The number that surprises people: stablecoins are now a bigger slice of the market than Ethereum. The dollars-on-chain layer has quietly grown into crypto's second pillar. And “everything else,” the thousands of tokens that generate most of the noise, is a fifth of the market between them.
Crypto is a Bitcoin market with a stablecoin settlement layer. The altcoin universe is far smaller than the volume of talk about it suggests.
